無我

It is the truth that there is no fixed, independent, and eternal entity known as the "self." This does not imply nihilism—the idea that the self does not exist at all—but rather means that because all beings arise through interdependent conditions and are in a state of constant flux, there is no essential core to which one can cling as the "self."

A Buddhist term referring to one's "original face" or "true, fundamental nature."
It signifies a pure, clear nature or truth—free from pretense or falsehood—that one possesses even before birth.

A term from Buddhist Zen practice meaning "turning the light back to shine inward"—specifically, shifting one's gaze or mind from the outside world to the self in order to engage in deep introspection and self-reflection.

All forms and shapes—whether visible to the eye or imagined in the mind—are illusory and devoid of true reality. If one realizes that these forms are merely outward appearances rather than true substance, one will behold the Tathagata—the embodiment of ultimate truth and Buddhahood.

One should give rise to the mind without dwelling on forms (sights), and one should give rise to the mind without dwelling on sounds, scents, tastes, tactile sensations, or mental objects; one should give rise to the mind without dwelling on anything.

If one seeks Me through form or sound, one walks a deviant path and cannot see the Tathagata.

All beings and phenomena in the world, born of causal connections, are like dreams, illusions, bubbles, and shadows; they are like dew and like lightning—thus should they be contemplated.

我相
atman samjna
"idea of a self" or the perception of an ego/soul; the illusionary, ingrained mental habit of viewing an unchanging, permanent "I" or "self" in things that are actually impermanent and conditional.

人相
pudgala samjna
"A mind fixated on the notion of distinction based on being human," or "a mindset that differentiates others from oneself and remains captive to the stereotype of what it means to be human."

sattva samjna
It is a mindset that divides and distinguishes between Buddhas and sentient beings. It is a mindset of self-limitation and giving up on spiritual practice, thinking, "I am a lowly sentient being, so I cannot become a Buddha," or "How could I possibly attain great enlightenment?"

jiva samjna
The erroneous notion—or attachment—that one's finite lifespan of life, or the years, age, and status one possesses, are eternal or special.
